Take an Unforgettable Half Day Journey Into One of the World's Most Celebrated Birding Sanctuaries

Travel along the legendary Pipeline Road, just 40 minutes from Panama City. Carving through untouched lowland rainforest, this 10-mile trail is not only a hotspot for avian diversity but also a living laboratory, home to decades of research by the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute. Every step here is a chance to witness the wild in its most vibrant and unfiltered form.

As morning light filters through the canopy, we’ll venture into the deeper reaches of the forest in search of elusive treasures like the Rufous-vented Ground-Cuckoo, Speckled Mourner, Red-capped Manakin, Streak-chested Antpitta, and the mystical Ocellated Antbird — species that have drawn birders from across the globe to this very trail.

Important Information

In Panama, you can expect rain at any time between April and December, while January to March are generally drier. As in any tropical country, insects—including mosquitoes—are part of the ecosystem. Animal behavior can be unpredictable and may be influenced by weather conditions, so we cannot guarantee sightings of specific wildlife native to the forest.

Our expert guides will always do their best to show you interesting wildlife and natural features along the walk. In addition to birds, we will also be looking for plants, butterflies, reptiles, mammals, and other wildlife. Please note that the trails may be uneven, and the tropical heat and humidity can be intense, so plan accordingly.
